* Eat 6 small meals a day or have a mid-morning and mid-afternoon healthy snack
* Eat some protein with every complex carbohydrate meal (natural unprocessed starches)
* Avoid simple carbs and starches (which are converted to sugar in the body) such as white flour, white sugar, white rice, corn, white potatoes
